Mid-Week Good News Club
10 weekly lunchtime meetings for busy people

course number: Pa4154H

8 October- 10 December, 2025
Wednesdays 14:00-15:30

The midday meal is an event which requires a lot of conversational skills between bites. There are certain societal rules of conduct in most English speaking cultures which expect people to keep things upbeat and positive and to avoid bringing the mood down, and not to complain without an acceptable level of humour. Holding onto Hope in Hard Times: Mid-Week Good News Club
Without a naive rejection of critical thinking and true bad news, this is
a weekly space to create balance, find inspiration and empowerment,
and focus on how to remain hopeful and stay strong.

Get Past your fears of using English and explore
releasing your thoughts onto paper in a safe,
confidential, and non-judgemental space.
Discuss weekly reading assignments from
Natalie Goldberg’s encouraging book https://
www.thelitpub.com/reviews-interviews/a-voice-
in-my-head-a-review-of-natalie-goldbergs-
writing-down-the-bones and using prompts of
you will write for 5-15 minutes without
stopping to allow, often surprising, free-flowing
thoughts through your pen onto paper. In the
practise adapted for non-native speakers, you
can use your language for words you can’t find,
and we will find them together afterwards. The
goal is not to produce great, or even good
writing, but rather, to loosen up and gain
confidence in a respectful group. The
agreements will include confidentiality, non-
judgment, also of one’s self, and you can share
as little or as much of your spontaneous writing
with us as you are comfortable with. More

and last but certainly not least, an online weekly writing and storytelling group focused on sharing
REhumanizing Stories. That is, the personal stories of people who are included in excluded, marginalised, and categorised groups of humans who have experienced societal and political dehumanization and how it is used in order to justify greed, inequality, oppression, and hideous acts of injustice through a constructed, entitled, self-righteous belief in superiority and that some humans lives are more valuable than others. This can only be achieved by distancing and "othering" groups of people, demonising ignoring the true stories of individuals in which their relatable, and often admirable, humanity cannot be denied. The stories you bring can be yours, or the stories of people you know personally. The can even be your researched stories of lesser known historical figures.
This course is offered as a weekly online B1+/B2 course: Pa4115H  8.10.2025- 10.12.2025  Wednesdays from wherever you are.
